Honorable Mention The Visit M. Kathryn Black The Marquis de Sade sits in his bath; white sheets soften rough metal against flesh. Naked men sit upon the floor; candle light glows about hungry eyes... a Dutch painting, no ceiling, only dark. A small man chews a child's hand; his teeth worry the fingers. Vapor rises; the Marquis raises his arm, beckons to me. With quiet steps I walk in. His eyes heavy lidded, the Marquis grins. His voice is cultured, elegant, "You find this revolting; is this your worst nightmare?" My heart beats, but I keep my words even. "No Sir, this is not the worst I've come across. I've been to hell; it doesn't interest me." A sharp tooth flashes. I don't care, for I step back, reach up and close the shutters on the past.
